Tyler Gregory Okonma; born March 6, 1991, known professionally as Tyler, the Creator, is an American rapper, singer, record producer, and fashion designer.[2] He is known for his eclectic and experimental music, raw lyrical style, and frequent use of alter egos and alternate personas across his albums. During the 2010s and 2020s, he was described as an influential figure in alternative hip-hop.[3]

In the late 2000s, Okonma co-founded and led the music collective Odd Future. As a member of the group, he worked as a rapper, producer, director, and actor, and produced studio albums for several of its members. He also appeared on the group's sketch comedy series Loiter Squad (2012–2014). Alongside his work with Odd Future, he developed a solo career with his self-released debut studio album, Bastard (2009). His second studio album, Goblin (2011), brought him mainstream attention, largely through the success of the single "Yonkers" and its music video. During this period, he attracted attention over his controversial horrorcore-influenced sound and violent, transgressive lyrics.

After releasing his third studio album, Wolf (2013), Tyler moved away from horrorcore and toward a more accessible sound, incorporating elements of jazz, soul, and R&B. He followed with Cherry Bomb (2015), which included guest appearances from Lil Wayne and Kanye West. In 2017, Flower Boy received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. Igor (2019) and Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) both debuted atop the Billboard 200 and won Best Rap Album at the 62nd and 64th Grammy Awards, respectively.[4] His later albums, Chromakopia (2024) and Don't Tap the Glass (2025), also debuted at number one in the U.S., with Chromakopia recording the strongest first-week sales of his career.

Beyond music, Tyler founded the clothing brands Golf Wang and Le Fleur, and has collaborated with Lacoste, Converse, and Louis Vuitton. He is also the founder of the Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival, an annual music festival launched in 2012 that has featured performers including Kanye West, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, and Billie Eilish. Under the pseudonym Wolf Haley, he has directed all of his music and promotional videos. In 2025, he made his feature film debut as Wally in Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme, under his birth name.

Tyler has won three Grammy Awards,[5] three BET Hip Hop Awards, a Brit Award, and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2019, The Wall Street Journal named him "Music Innovator of the Year",[6] and in 2024, the Los Angeles Times featured him in its "L.A. Influential" series as a "creator who is leaving [his] mark" on Los Angeles.[7]

The Smiths were an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1982, composed of Morrissey (vocals), Johnny Marr (guitar), Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Morrissey and Marr formed the band's songwriting partnership. The Smiths are regarded as one of the most important British bands and one of the pioneers of 1980s independent music.

The Smiths signed to the independent label Rough Trade Records in 1983 and released their debut album, The Smiths, in 1984. They focused on a guitar, bass and drum sound, fusing art rock and post-punk, which was a rejection of the synth-pop sound predominant at the time. Several of the band's singles reached the top 20 of the UK singles chart, and all their studio albums reached the top five of the UK Albums Chart, including the number-one album Meat Is Murder (1985). The Queen Is Dead (1986) and Strangeways, Here We Come (1987) both entered the top 20 of the European Albums Chart.[1]

In 1986, the Smiths briefly expanded to a five-piece with the addition of guitarist Craig Gannon, but internal tensions eventually led to their breakup the following year. The split was followed by heavily publicized lawsuits over royalties, and the band members have rejected numerous offers to reunite in the years since. Rourke died in 2023.

Tame Impala, is the psychedelic music project of Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker.[7] In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (vocals, guitar, synthesiser), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals, synthesiser), Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals), and James Ireland (guitar, synthesiser). The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Watson, Ireland, and formerly Nick Allbrook. Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala signed in 2015 to Interscope Records in the United States[8] and Fiction Records in the United Kingdom.

Parker originally conceived the project in Perth in 2007. After a series of singles and EPs, Tame Impala's debut studio album, Innerspeaker, was released in 2010; it was certified gold in Australia and well received by critics. Parker's 2012 follow-up, Lonerism, was also acclaimed, reaching platinum status in Australia and receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Tame Impala's third album, Currents, was released in July 2015,[9] and like its predecessor, it won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Parker won the APRA Award for Song of the Year 2016 for Currents' first track, "Let It Happen".[10] The fourth studio album, The Slow Rush, was released on 14 February 2020 to further praise from music critics. At the 2020 ARIA Music Awards, Tame Impala won five awards. The project's fifth album, Deadbeat, was released in 2025, to polarized reviews and spawned the commercially successful single "Dracula"; its remix with South Korean singer Jennie (of Blackpink) became the project's first top-ten hit on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Founded by lead singer and guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, the band went through a succession of drummers, most notably Chad Channing, before recruiting Dave Grohl in 1990. Nirvana's success popularized alternative rock, and they were often referenced as the flagship band of Generation X.[1] Their music maintains a popular following and continues to influence rock culture.

In the late 1980s, Nirvana established itself as part of the Seattle grunge scene. They released their first album, Bleach, on the independent record label Sub Pop in 1989. Their sound relied on dynamic contrasts, often between quiet verses and loud, heavy choruses. After signing to the major label DGC Records in 1990, Nirvana found unexpected success with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the first single from its landmark second album, Nevermind (1991). A cultural phenomenon of the 1990s, Nevermind was certified thirteen-times platinum in the US and is credited with ending the popularity of hair metal.[2][3][4]

Characterized by a punk aesthetic, Nirvana's fusion of pop melodies with noise, combined with its themes of abjection and social alienation, brought them global popularity. Following extensive touring and the 1992 compilation album Incesticide and EP Hormoaning, the band released its highly anticipated third studio album, In Utero (1993). The album topped both the US and UK album charts, and was acclaimed by critics. However, in April 1994, Nirvana disbanded following Cobain's suicide. Further releases have been overseen by Novoselic, Grohl, and Cobain's widow, Courtney Love. The live album MTV Unplugged in New York (1994) won Best Alternative Music Performance at the 1996 Grammy Awards.

Nirvana is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including certified sales of 60 million in the US.[5] During its three years as a mainstream act, Nirvana received an American Music Award, Brit Award, and Grammy Award, as well as seven MTV Video Music Awards and two NME Awards. The band achieved five number-one hits on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and four number-one albums on the Billboard 200. Mindless Self Indulgence (often abbreviated as MSI) is an American electropunk band formed in New York City in 1997. Their music has a mixed style which includes punk rock, alternative rock, electronica, techno, industrial, hip hop, and breakbeat hardcore. The band features Jimmy Urine on vocals, Steve, Righ? on guitar, Lyn-Z on bass guitar, and Kitty on drums; Between 1987 and 1996, Jimmy Urine recorded about 35 songs which varied in musical style, usually settling in an industrial/electronic punk style. These songs were recorded with himself and his brother, Markus Euringer in New York City using rudimentary equipment. Urine and his brother released an album titled Mindless Self-Indulgence, featuring Steve, Righ? on 'Bed of Roses', which featured songs performed in an industrial style akin to Nine Inch Nails.[2]

In 1997, Urine recorded a cover of Method Man's "Bring the Pain" that was made by merging six different styles of the same cover into one song. This became the basis for the Mindless Self Indulgence sound. The band formed soon after when Urine was joined by Steve, Righ? on guitar, Urine's brother Markus Euringer on second guitar (replaced by bassist Vanessa Y.T., who was subsequently replaced by bassist Lyn-Z), and Kitty on drums. They have released five albums, four EPs, eight remix albums, one live album, two compilation albums, and one live DVD.[3] Rather than signing traditional record contracts, the band has licensed most of their albums to record labels, retaining ownership of the music.

In summer of 2007, the band toured as part of the Revolution Stage of Projekt Revolution, a music festival hosted by Linkin Park.[4] In January 2009, the band headlined the Kerrang! Relentless Energy Drink tour.[5]

In December 2010, they released a comic titled Adventures Into Mindless Self Indulgence about various tour stories and significant moments of the band's career.[6] The band released a remastered CD/DVD version of their first full-length album, Tight, in 2011, titled Tighter. It included bonus tracks and recordings from their early days. On October 25, 2012, the band announced their fifth album via a Kickstarter campaign.[7] How I Learned to Stop Giving a Shit and Love Mindless Self Indulgence was released in May 2013, following with the release of singles "It Gets Worse" in December and "Fuck Machine" in January 2014. Later in January 2014, the band announced that they would be taking a hiatus.[8][9][10]

On September 18, 2015, Mindless Self Indulgence released Pink, a collection of 19 songs recorded between 1990 and 1997 by Urine. The album includes cut-down and remastered versions of songs from the self-titled album, an audio diary recorded by Urine from July 1992, and covers of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" and Duran Duran's "Girls on Film".[11]

On August 9, 2021, a lawsuit was filed against James Euringer (Jimmy Urine) in New York Supreme Court with the charge of sexual battery of a minor, who claims that she had a sexual relationship with Euringer for over two years — from January 1997 to June 1999 — starting when she was 15 years old and Euringer was 27.[12][13][14][15] On March 26, 2024, all charges against Euringer were dismissed with prejudice after all parties involved in the suit agreed to a stipulation of dismissal.[16][17]

On June 20, 2024, the band released MSI B-Sides Vol. 1 without any prior notice.[18] The album contained songs that had not been previously available on streaming, but had been released on their previous EPs and singles.

Metallica is an American heavy metal band. It was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career.[1][2] The band's fast tempos, instrumentals and aggressive musicianship made them one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The band comprised John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They are regarded as the most influential band in popular music and were integral to the development of 1960s counterculture and the recognition of popular music as an art form.[1][2] Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock 'n' roll, their sound incorporated elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways. They also explored styles ranging from folk and Indian music to psychedelia and hard rock. Led by primary songwriters Lennon and McCartney, the Beatles evolved from Lennon's previous group, the Quarrymen, and built their reputation by playing clubs in Liverpool and in Hamburg, West Germany, starting in 1960. Manager Brian Epstein moulded them into a professional act, and producer George Martin developed their recordings, greatly expanding their domestic success after they signed with EMI and achieved their first hit, "Love Me Do", in late 1962. As their popularity grew into the fan frenzy dubbed "Beatlemania", the band acquired the nickname "the Fab Four". They enjoyed further commercial success with The Beatles (also known as "the White Album", 1968) and Abbey Road (1969). The success of these records heralded the album era, increased public interest in psychedelic drugs and Eastern spirituality, and furthered advancements in electronic music, album art and music videos. In 1968, the Beatles founded Apple Corps, a multi-armed multimedia corporation that continues to oversee projects related to their legacy.
